Copyright ReformINTRODUCTIONThe emergence and proliferation of digital technology has fundamentally altered the shape of cultural production and consumption in Canada. Despite much recent discussion, copyright reform is not new and Canadian law has undergone a number of changes, often in response to shifts in technology and practice. This section provides a general guide to Canadian copyright reform, particularly as it pertains to digital technology and the most recent decade of attempts at amending the Copyright Act to address the digital environment. Though copyright reform deals with a number of issues, this website highlights those related specifically to digital technology. Other copyright issues that are dealt with in new legislation (for example, photographers' rights or performers' moral rights) will not be discussed at length here. |
