CILP receives funding from Public Safety Canada for research project to be conducted by Executive Director Andrea Slane entitled “Child Sexual Exploitation, Technology and Crime Prevention Education: Keeping Pace with the Risks?”

“Child Sexual Exploitation, Technology and Crime Prevention Education: Keeping Pace with the Risks?”, a research project to be conducted by conducted by CILP Executive Director Andrea Slane, seeks to identify gaps between current crime prevention strategies and the ongoing and emerging risks of sexual exploitation posed to children and young people via ever changing technologies. The project will compare and analyze the significance of differences in content and focus between current crime prevention materials and strategies aimed at children, parents, and teachers, the experiences and knowledge levels of youth, and the technological practices of offenders as reported in case law and through interviews with child protection organizations and police units. The research will provide vital information about unevenness of emphasis or blind spots in existing crime prevention strategies, and so make recommendations for future directions for crime prevention campaigns aimed at children, youth and their caregivers. The project is funded by Public Safety Canada.
